Background

I came up with the idea for Serava - A Wellness Travel App after noticing that most travel apps focus only on logistics—flights, hotels, and activities—while overlooking the emotional side of travel. I wanted to design an app that not only helps people plan trips but also integrates wellness and mindfulness, turning travel into a tool for self-care and balance.

What is Serava?

Serava combines trip planning with wellness by letting users track their mood, get personalized travel recommendations, and practice quick mindfulness exercises like breathing or journaling—all while seamlessly booking flights, stays, and activities in one place.

Research

To enrich the research phase, I received support from two friends who assisted in data collection. I conducted seven key research methods to explore how wellness-focused travel experiences can support users’ emotional needs and self-connection

Persona

Before sketching interfaces, I first summarized my understanding of the users based on the design exercise. After the research, we identified two key personas that represented the most common patterns in our data, helping us focus the design direction.

Early concept

After identifying key user pain points around emotional vulnerability during travel, I began generating solutions to address them in meaningful, experience-driven ways. I sketched several low-fidelity wireframes to visualize early ideas — focusing on how a user’s emotional state could drive their booking journey. This helped me evaluate flow, tone, and value before refining details.

Emotional destination matching

Instead of pushing deals or destinations, Serava’s landing page centers on how you want to feel. It immediately aligns with the user’s emotional needs, not just their travel plans.

Mood check-ins

Serava treats emotions as a core part of the journey. Mood check-ins serves as emotional waypoints, supporting mental wellness, promoting emotional awareness throughout the travel experiences, helping detect stress, burnout, or joy in real time and encouraging self-care moments that might be ignored.

Journaling & reflection tools

Instead of forgetting how they felt, users get a gentle, visual archive of their emotional journey — something no traditional travel app offers. This helps users visualize emotional patterns through mood tracking and encourage deeper post-trip insights.
